It’s official. SEQ’s dams have reached that magical number of 40%. As of 12:00am on the 31st of July, we’ve reached the elusive capacity volume where our current Level 6 water restrictions (Target 140) are lifted and we move to Target 170 - High Level Restrictions.
SEQ has averaged 129L of water per person per day – a worlds best water saving acheivement. People have adopted water saving actions and methods so well, it has become a part of our lives. We have all accepted the challenge thrown upon us from the drought, and this now shapes the way we live, the way we design our future spaces, the way we interact with the environment.
With about 1200 people moving to SEQ each week, we need to ensure we think long term about our water issues. Even though our dams may be filling and our restrictions starting to lift we still need to be smart about delivering sustainable projects, protecting our resources, and giving back to the environment what we can.
Congratulations, SEQ, for conserving all the water that we have and helping to crack the elusive “Magic 40”. Let’s keep it up.
