Coomera CBD Master Plan

THG were commissioned to create a master planning concept for the Coomera CBD area incorporating New Urbanism design principles. Theories on pedestrian cities were put in to practice, augmenting a mix of uses including education, retail, health and residential accommodation. THG created a space that reduced reliance on cars, promoted healthier living by encouraging regular exercise and promoted cycling and walking as the primary mode of transport.

THG’s urban designers delivered a concept that proposed a multi-storey mixed use building located on a main activity street that encouraged the creation of a public space. By designing an active street frontage, including lifestyle, restaurants, outdoor dining and small scale shops at ground level with a mix of commercial and residential units above, the master plan for this space took advantage of the close proximity to the existing Coomera train station.

The proposal was received very positively by the Planning and Urban Design Task Force of the Gold Coast City Council and the site has subsequently been sold.
