Urban & Social Economics

Urban Economics gives our clients the opportunities to see developments beyond the bricks and mortar.Considering the intricacies of how a project will impact the community – both economically and socially – is a core area of expertise.THG then goes beyond the research to integrate this analysis throughout all elements of the project, from the planning application to the urban design.

Economic Needs Analysis

Our clients need to understand the commercial viability and feasibility of their project – will this project work?Using economic needs analysis, THG can assess the economic impact of a project through:

  • Market research and analysis on property sectors as a basis for development and investment
  • Investment requirements and sequencing
  • Specific sector demand, including the demand for service and infrastructure
  • Possibilities for future developments, determining current and future operational needs
  • Assessment of commercial prospects for retail linkages, relocation, and development
  • Determining better uses of existing or redundant infrastructure
  • Determining the impact of a proposed development on existing economic land uses
  • Provision of turnover and rent forecasts for project development
  • Due diligence involving assessment of the current and future prospects for a property – the returns, risks and development opportunities.
  • Analysis of changes to regions impacting on the future operations of specialised precinct development

Social Needs Analysis

Where we live, work and play is not just impacted by dollars and cents. The places THG creates must also be safe, healthy and environmentally sustainable.

Our expertise in social needs analysis gives us the capacity to:

  • Evaluate the impact of development on employment and education
  • Determine which target groups might be affect by a development
  • Focus group research with potential market groups
  • Test the market appeal of a master-planning concept
  • Determine the impact of a project on social interaction, community identity, safety and cohesion, consolidation or dislocation of existing social or cultural networks, disadvantaged social groups and existing residential amenity

Gainsborough Greens

In order to bring about the level of densification required to make the project viable, THG were charged with demonstrating the value of bringing forward the construction of a railway station ahead of time.

The Ridge Urban Village
